Angelo Maniquis: Saving for a rainy day
Angelo Maniquis: Saving for a rainy day
Angelo with his fiancee, Helen
Human resources specialist, 28, Damascus, Md.

My fiancee and I are planning a wedding in 2009 and are currently trying to pay off credit cards in preparation for more debt towards the wedding.

Unlike how the government expects me to spend this money, I am putting it in my savings account as a rainy day fund. And if there are no unexpected expenses by 2009, I will use this towards the wedding.

I did an unscientific survey of 20 people at work and more than 15 of them surprisingly told me that they will put the rebate check in their savings account. Only two of the 20 people vowed to shop for electronics and clothing using that money. The rest will use the money to pay their bills.
