When I first got the news that we were getting this rebate, I was very excited. I thought, "Hmmm, a new flat screen, new Playstation 3 for my kids or even a nice vacation this Memorial Day with the family."

But with the constant bombardment of troubling news in the world, maybe I'll buy a $1,000 gas card, 10 huge bags of rice and learn to grow a vegetable garden.

More than likely I will do as my grandfather used to do and put the money in a sock and save it. I'm no Nostradamus, but I think tougher times are ahead.
