Bain claimed the US government, specifically the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), had killed the deal due to national security concerns; but for some observers that sounded like a convenient excuse.
The data network provider doesn't seem to buy it either, and is in the process of trying to get its $66 million termination fee.
